I Didn’t See You There

A person crossing a street on a sunny day, wearing a black coat, tan pants, and white sneakers. They hold a bottle in one hand. Shadows of trees and the person are visible on the cracked pavement, with a letter X marked on the street.

When a circus tent goes up outside of his apartment, a disabled filmmaker must confront the legacy of the Freak Show and whether his past autobiographical filmmaking has fit into its tradition. With the camera pointed away from himself, he captures the personal and poetic from his wheelchair.

I DIDN’T SEE YOU THERE won Best Director for U.S. Documentary Feature at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and the Truer Than Fiction Award at the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards.
